  • Every instructor at SCC is required to include certain information in their syllabus. Each semester, the Dean of Teaching and Learning Support updates the information so that is timely and accurate. These syllabus statements can be found in the Concourse Syllabus tool, which is available in every course (you simply have to make some edits and make it available for students to view). Please see below in the Resources section for more information about Concourse.

      Checklist Annotations

      Syllabus includes:

      ☐ 2.1 – Instructor’s name 

      ☐ 2.2 – Instructor’s office location and hours

      ☐ 2.3 – Instructor’s email

      ☐ 2.4 – Instructor’s phone

      If you use the Concourse Syllabus tool in your course, you will find many of these items are already completed for you.

      2.5 – Course description (from the catalog)

      If you use the Concourse Syllabus tool in your course, you will find this item is already completed for you.

      2.6 – Course objectives

      Course objectives may be listed under the Course Description in the syllabus if the heading is titled “Course Description and Objectives.” If using the Concourse syllabus tool, this may automatically populate.

      2.7 – Textbook and materials information (including ISBN)

      Textbook information must include the ISBN

      2.8 – Grading information, policy, and scale

      Include the method of evaluation (tests, papers, etc.) and include the weights or point values for assignments/activities

      2.9 – Required college syllabus statements (Attendance/participation, withdrawal date and procedure, disability services statement, and academic integrity)

      Include Attendance/participation policy, Withdrawal date and procedure, Disability services statement, and Academic integrity statement. These statements are available in the Syllabus link in all courses that are created (whether you use the Concourse syllabus tool or not). Access the syllabus tool in your course and copy and paste the statements into your own document if you do not wish to use Concourse.

      For updated syllabus statements to include in your document, please refer to the Syllabus link in each course. Even if you do not plan to use the Concourse Syllabus tool, the syllabus will have information pre-filled that you can copy and paste into your own syllabus.

      Please note: Names, phone numbers, and email addresses have been removed from key areas of the sample syllabus and includes statements from a previous semester, so if you choose to use this format, please be sure you update the syllabus statements.
