    Welcome!

This course will explain the components of SCC's Course Readiness Review and give suggestions for how to meet the expectations of the review.

Please contact the E-Learning team at e-learning@southwesterncc.edu with any questions, or drop a question into the "Ask Questions Here" forum (accessed by clicking on the "Ask Questions Here" link in the table of contents on the left side of the course page).

    • How This Course Works

This is a resource course so there are no quizzes or assignments to complete.

In each section is a table that has both the expectations from the Course Readiness Review Checklist as well as annotations that explain each item. Below the table will be examples and resources.

You can navigate through the course by clicking on the links in the table of contents on the left or using the navigational arrows at the bottom of each section.

Please note that you can always email us at e-learning@southwesterncc.edu with questions or contact us via the "Ask Questions Here" forum available via the link in the left sidebar.

    • Information about the Course Readiness Review Process

Faculty are key in the development of online and hybrid courses here at Southwestern Community College. Course development is supported through professional development, and one-on-one consultations from the E-Learning department to assist with development of course materials, assessments, and technical issues.

To ensure the consistent quality development of web-centered and hybrid courses, SCC has established a course review process for new web-centered and hybrid course offerings. This program ensures that courses are reviewed prior to the start of a term based on a checklist developed by the E-Learning committee.

Once a course is chosen to be run online or as a hybrid (or in some cases a new instructor is chosen to offer an existing online or hybrid course), the course will be required to complete the Course Readiness Review. To prepare, faculty may use The Course Readiness Checklist (With Annotations).

Approximately 10 business days prior to the start of a course, the E-Learning department will use the Course Readiness Checklist to review courses.  Should any expectations be unmet, we will provide faculty a detailed list of suggested updates. This will be followed by a working lab (held within 3 days of the start of the semester). This lab is a working professional development session where faculty can work with E-Learning staff to meet any outstanding expectations in the course.

    • Information about the CRR Checklist
While the CRR Checklist focuses on course organization, design, and ease of navigation; it does not focus on course content or teaching strategies/techniques. The goal is to have courses that are designed to allow students to focus most of their time energy on learning and developing skills, not on trying to navigate the course to find what they need.

Please download and refer to The Course Readiness Checklist (With Annotations) throughout this course as needed.
    • Sample Moodle Course - Online

Click above to view a sample course that has been designed jointly by an SCC instructor and the E-Learning department. This course meets the expectations of the Course Readiness Review (although it is just a sample, so it includes only 4 weeks' worth of material, instead of 8 or 16). We hope this course gives you a model to use as you design your own course; however, there are many ways to meet the expectations of the review, so your course need not look exactly like this one.
